Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has unveiled an ambitious $25.6m plan to redevelop Swanston Street, including designs for four new ”city squares”.
The proposal will see private vehicles and taxis banned from the city’s major thoroughfare and limited hours of operation for delivery vehicles.

The winning concept in the Montreal city bus shelter design competition was submitted by the consortium Leblanc + Turcotte + Spooner. The competition was for the design of a new bus shelter incorporating various elements including an advertising poster frame, a bench and a solar power system. The STM plans to have 400 new shelters built for installation all across its network, gradually replacing the current models and responding to new needs.
The design features a communications column, which could house various components including dynamic digital displays and backlit advertising posters. An integrated solar power system will ensure lighting of shelters that cannot be connected to the power grid.

Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. are promoting the idea of advanced digital signs in stores that aren’t just for shoppers to look at. These look back.
The two technology giants said that they will collaborate to help companies create and use new forms of digital signs. By exploiting Intel chips and Microsoft software, the companies hope to bring more interactivity to such devices and help retailers customized marketing offers to consumers.
